3/2 Teen Slam: Vanessa Vargas (pictured left) emceed the open mic. The poets
included Alison, Pete, Andy (me), Melissa, Becca, John, Amy Witting, and Claire
Stoscheck. Before the teen slam Lenelle did a brilliant
poem about slamming.
Then Elizabeth Feldman emceed the slam. Sarah Kain did the calibration poem.
The slammers were Sarah, Benny, Lukas with the lid off, Amaryllis, Teresa,
Livers, Lauren, Alex, Aime, Meg, Ivy, Paige, and Dario.
The finalists were Amaryllis, Livers, Lauren, Alex, Ivy, Paige, and Dario.
Amaryllis won the $20. Ivy came in a close second. They will both be on the
team representing Ithaca in the National Youth Poetry Slam in
Ann Arbor in April.
Tim Wells and
his friends, Ivan and Brett, did a featured reading.
The audience was big and wonderful. $60 was donated. This went 1/3 to the
slam winner, and 1/3 to the fund to send the people to the National Youth
Poetry Slam Festival, and 1/3 to Tim Wells, the feature from England.
Some of my friends came, including Mecke, Laura, Emme, Avery, Susan, Jeanne, Tamara, Michele Battiste (who judged and also did some amazing poetry later at Sarah Kain's house), Sue and Jay, Kathy, Kris, Richard, Tim, Leslie and her charming friend Penny, Jason, and my already mentioned poet friends.
