A great group of poets and poetry lovers came to Juna's on Friday, December 5, 2003, including Mandy, Rudi, Andrea, Michael, Valerie, Richard, Aubryn's mother, and friends.

We had an outstanding open mic. I (Andy) read a poem by Felix Ortega, who is in prison, about not being able to write to anyone. Tara, Christrian, Ashley, Aubryn, Mapachi, Rebecca, and Andrew read their poems. Marc and another guy read poems by Alan Ginsburg and somebody else, respectively.

There was a semi-final slam. Alana emceed. The slammers were Andy, Ben, Jeni, Aubryn, Hallie, Magdala, Leukas, and Colin.

Someone did a good calibration poem. In the first round, Jeni came in first with her poem about "a son to die for your sins."I came in second with my poem about Southwest Park. Ben came in third with a new poem about Cambodia. Colin came in fourth.

In the second round. Ben took first with his poem about meeting a deadhead in the desert. I came in second with my prison poem. Hallie came in third with her poem that ends with the part about time. Aubryn took fourth.
