Slam at Juna's 7-7-06

Fabulous open mic - lots of great poets including Ryan, Jane and Amy from Syracuse, Rich from Norwich doing a duet with Jane that I thought rocked. Then just Rich, then just Amy, then Karen from team Ithaca (Go!), Hymn, Summer (Go!), Steve Poleskie - friend of Thaddeus - generous guy, 8.bliss, Sarah (Go!), Zac, Cherie, Theo, and Lauren of team Ithaca 2004! What a mad phat open mic!

And then the feature, Thaddeus Rutkowski. He was awesome - smooth, smart, poetic, unpretentious. I really liked him. I wanted to buy his latest novel, Tetched, but he gave it to me. It's great - like poetry. I'm sure it will be on my great book page as soon as I finish reading it.

Then the slam. Hymn sacrificed. Mina emceed. It was only one round. I went first, and won, with "She Wants Peace". Karen and Jane qualified for the semi's in December, since I had already qualified. Karen and Jane are going to Austin as part of team Ithaca 2006. Jane hosts a weekly open mic in Syracuse every Monday at the Coffee Pavilion. Richard and Kate are also going to Austin as part of team Ithaca.

So, it was another great night at Juna's. Some of my friends came by, including Kimari, Linda Stout, Pete, James and other Open Heart drummers, Bill, and some previously mentioned poet friends. Richard's friend Heather came.
